Thank you for visiting the official website of the Horizon Wushu Academy. This site was designed to introduce newcomers to the art of Northern Long Fist Kung Fu. It is not the intention of the website, to teach you the movements of this system but to give you an explanation of what is taught at our facility and the benefits that can be achieved through hardwork (Kung Fu).

Shaolin Long Fist (or Northern Shaolin) is a Chinese martial arts system developed from the northern parts of China. This system emphasizes long to middle range defense and attacks. Maximization of power is achieved through Lower Spinal Rotation and proper breathing techniques. The long term effects are better health and more energy through proper breathing and exercise.

Today, wushu has been organized and systematized into a formal branch of study in the performance arts by the Chinese. It reigns as the most popular national sport in the country of 1.1 billion people, practiced by the young and old alike. Its emphasis has shifted from combat to performance, and it is practiced for its method of achieving health, self-defense skills, mental discipline, recreational pursuit and competition.

To describe wushu, it is best to understand the philosophy of its teaching. Every movement must exhibit sensible combat application and aestheticism. The wealth of wushu’s content, the beauty of wushu movements, the difficulty factor, and the scientific training methods are the song of the elements that set wushu apart from martial arts. Routines are performed solo, paired or in groups, either barehanded or armed with traditional Chinese weaponry. In short, wushu is the most exciting martial arts to be seen, felt, and ultimately practiced.

Our training facility is located in North Port, Florida. We have been practicing and teaching the art of Northern Long Fist and Modern Wushu for over 25 years under the tutelage of Sifu Peter Boisvert.

At Horizon Wushu Academy we strive to promote the importance of discipline, respect, honesty, team work and good conduct through the art of Kung Fu. In Chinese the translation of kungfu means “hard work”. And with time and practice the student will gain better coordination, flexibility, strength, agility, confidence, and a better awareness and an improved spirit in wanting to succeed.

Kungfu is great for all ages, and is a fun activity to get the entire family involved. There is something for everyone to gain, from the study of kungfu.
